Doris Waddell
Program Support Technician

Doris joined the Office of Economic Development in 2004. A native of Southwest Virginia, she has also lived in Dallas, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia. During her 12 years in Dallas, Doris worked as the assistant Coordinator for the Career Development Center at Skyline Center, a magnet school with over over 4,000 students. Doris also completed a degree in Computer Information Systems while in Texas.

While in Atlanta, Doris began a new career as a contract administrator for a company that supplied materials for municipal water treatment facilities. She soon became familiar with multi-million dollar budgets and contract language. After a few years in Atlanta, she returned to Virginia and began her career at Virginia Tech as the assistant to the Vice President of Capital Support.

In her current role as Program Support Technician, Doris supports the director and associate director. She also works with the specialists and associates on the many varied programs. Along with managing the day-to-day of the office, she also coordinates the department budget, and the varied federal and state grant budgets. Doris built and manages the OED website, and produces the electronic newsletter.

In 2007, Doris was nominated for the President's Award for Excellence, and in 2008, was the Virginia Tech employee of the month in January, and won an Outreach Employee Recognition Award for cost savings and initiative, and the effective use of resources in a resource-scarce environment.

When not at work, Doris is an avid bird watcher, photographer, lover of all things puppy, gardner and science fiction fan.
